About

My name is Astrid, I’m 26, and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

Like many of us, I created a Tiktok account in the summer of 2020 to pass the time during COVID. I chose the name OddPride because I wanted to present an unfiltered version of myself and my passions to the world – one that refuses to pretend not to be odd. I think the world is fascinating, and I hoped to reach people who were as excited as I was by all the weird and wonderful facts and ideas I love to share. To date, I’ve had a small handful of viral videos (mostly about paleontology and anthropology), and built a modest following of kind, curious people. I’m happy you’re here, and I hope you stick around.

FAQ

Why do you talk like that?
I grew up code-switching between British and American English, speaking BRE with my family and AmE at school. Unfortunately I’m not very good at code-switching, and now I can’t speak either dialect completely normally.

What’s your day job?
This! I feel like the luckiest person in the world, to be able to share facts and stories about the world that excite and inspire me, on my own schedule, and earn money doing it – so thank you for making my absolute wildest dreams come true.

As for my previous professional endeavors, I taught a pod class of kindergarteners during the 2020-2021 school year, and before the pandemic, I was a substitute teacher and extended day aide at a local elementary school.

What did you study in college?
I went to Sarah Lawrence, where everyone technically majors in “liberal arts.” But within that, I concentrated in music theory and composition, plus some history and foreign language.

Are you just making everything up?
I do pretty careful research before posting every fun facts video. That said, I’m grateful for your informed corrections, and happy to cite sources when requested.
